abstract expressions

Abstract Expressions is an abbreviated series of paintings that came about just after I completed my thesis body of work. The need to push myself in another direction may have been a matter of creative necessity, as the work is in many ways more gestural than some of my other works.

Like many of my later works, these paintings are not abstractions without source material. They are scenes of my life that have been pushed into the background of paint and rendered with a great deal of intention, accentuated with vibrant and muted colors across the canvas.
